Having these documents ready before your appointment makes the process faster and ensures nothing is missed. Not every item will apply to your situation.
Personal Information
- Social Security numbers for you, your spouse, and all dependents
- Dates of birth for all household members
- Last year's tax return (new clients)
- Bank account and routing number for direct deposit
- Identity Protection PIN (if the IRS issued you one)
Income Documents
- W-2 forms from all employers
- 1099-NEC / 1099-MISC (freelance, contractor, or business income)
- 1099-INT (bank interest) and 1099-DIV (dividends)
- 1099-B (investment sales / brokerage statements)
- 1099-R (retirement distributions)
- SSA-1099 (Social Security income)
- K-1 forms from partnerships, S-corporations, trusts, or estates
- Rental income records and all related expenses
- Self-employment income and expense records
- Records of any other income received
Deductions & Credits
- Mortgage interest statement (Form 1098)
- Property tax payment records
- Charitable contribution receipts
- Medical and dental expense records
- Student loan interest (Form 1098-E)
- Childcare expenses and provider information
- Education expenses (Form 1098-T)
- HSA contributions (Form 5498-SA)
- Business expense records (if self-employed)
- Home office expenses (if applicable)
- Vehicle mileage logs (business, medical, or charitable use)
Health Insurance
- Form 1095-A (if you purchased insurance through the marketplace)
- Form 1095-B or 1095-C (employer or government coverage)
